I’m narrowing down my efforts this year.

I wrote and published a blog post the other day about how I don’t make any money from my side hustles yet. I wrote it to be honest about the fact that I’m starting from 0 and that I want 2022 to be the year that everything changes.

I have high hopes for this year because one of my goals in life is to be able to say that I make money from doing something I love.

I keep waiting for things to happen to me, but I can’t just wait. I have to take action. I keep acting like things will just happen in the future but that’s not the right way to think. The time is now.

But first, I need to come up with a plan for how I’m going to accomplish this. I mentioned in that blog post that I need to narrow down my interests so that I can dedicate my time toward the things that are most important and most interesting to me.

So first things first, I did some brainstorming this morning and I decided to focus on three different disciplines.

  1. Blogging
  2. Youtube
  3. Etsy

And from there, I’m going to break it down and share with you what my goals are and what my action plan is for each of these things.

Blogging

I’ve been blogging in one from or another since I was kid. I started out on Xanga, moved to blogger, and have had many different writing platforms since then. My current blog is a lifestyle blog discussing subjects like food, books, planning, and healthy living.

I also write here on Medium. This year I’m going to be using my Medium blog as a way to document my journey with make additional income through my side hustles.

Goal:

Make $500 per month through blogging

Action Plan:

Post articles regularly on Medium so that I can hit 100 followers and remain in the Medium Partner Program. Host ads and share affiliate links through my personal blog.

Youtube

My Youtube Channel goes by the same name as my personal blog because they share similar content, and go hand in hand.

Goal:

Make $1000 per month through my Youtube Channel

Action Plan:

Narrow down my niche so that I can attract more subscribers, as you needs 100 subscribers and 4000 watch hours to apply for the Youtube Partner Program. Continue to use affiliate links in video descriptions to share things with my viewers that I think they will be interested in. Once I can apply to the Youtube Partner Program, I hope to make money through ads.

Etsy

I have had an Etsy shop since 2012 but I am looking to pivot from physical products to digital products, for truly passive income. I used to make $300 per year through my store but I want to broaden my scope in order to reach more customers.

Goal:

$500 per month through Etsy Shop

Action Plan:

Spend time thinking about what digital content I would like to sell. Make plans in my sketchbook and continue to practice designing on my computer and iPad. Research tags and keywords and have first round of product (5 listings) up by April 1st.

Nothing is set in stone, but by figuring out a game plan for what I want and how I plan to achieve it, it makes things feel more possible. And that’s a start.
